Power to the People: The Electrification of Rural Texas

Walk into a world before television, computers, the i-pod, even refrigerators and running water. The exhibit, Power to the People: The Electrification of Rural Texas is a unique story of one of the most dramatic events in Texas history. Rural Texas in the 1930s was still in the dark as electric lines hadn’t penetrated the beautiful, but rugged Texas Hill Country.
Gems and Minerals Exhibit

On display will be 100 specimens collected from all over the world, including a 925-carat blue topaz crystal from Mason County, Texas, along with magnificent specimens of azurite, cinnabar and wulfenite, delicate leaf gold, unusual copper in calcite, and sparkling crystals of cerussite, among others.

Even today, Texas boasts a number of real-life working cowboys on modern-day ranches. Texas photographer Robb Kendrick captures images of those cowboys via the tintype, a 19th-century method. This exhibition features more than 60 tintypes of Lone Star cowboys and cowgirls.
